UNDecided Major

By now you have been asked 100 times what you want to be. It gets tiring, especially if you are not sure. It is ok for you to not be sure of what you want to be.

I have some tips for you to help you through that exploration process.

One really important tip is that while you are figuring out what you want to be, or gaining understanding for the path ahead, consider the degree of your interest by looking through a course catalogue. This will describe the profession and all the classes it takes to get that degree.

This will let you know if you really want to study the class.

Another key is to talk to different people who work in that field. Or spend a day or two with them on the job.

Do not limit yourself to one person.

Get the variety so that you can gain a true sense of what your future would look like.

Within the same state, i.e. Texas, a college will provide all the Core Classes that are transferrable to the university of that state.

For example, a student can choose to attend a DCCCD or community college, and complete the Core Classes that transfer to any UT without really declaring a major. At most you might have to declare the Arts or Sciences major.

It is less expensive to take the Core Classes at a college. As well, the classrooms are often smaller in a college.

After the core requirements are completed a student must “declare” a major.

If you still can’t decide, you can select a Liberal Arts degree. This is a good degree to have as it exposes the student to many topics.
